Installation Sheet for Heavy Fixtures (50 lbs and Over)
Caution: Turn off electricity at main fuse box before installation. If you are not familiar with electrical wiring, have a qualified electrician make this installation.
Risk of fire: Do not use lamps with greater wattage than is labeled on this fixture.
Method A: (Brace is directly on top of the outlet box and not accessible)
Using a 1/8 drill bit, pre-drill (4) holes into the wood brace through the (4) hole pattern in the outlet box. (Outlet box is shown as a cutaway for clarity). Secure the hickey to the brace with (4) #8 x 1-1/2 screws. The wire way opening should mount between the outlet box 2 mounting flanges.
Method B: (Brace is on top and not in contact with the outlet box and is accessible)
Remove center knockout from outlet box. In line with the center knockout, drill a 9/16 hole in the brace. (Brace should be fastened to the ceiling joist after pipe is installed). Assemble hickey to one end of a ᄐ pipe/nipple. The pipe should be flush with the inside of the hickey wire way. Insert pipe through back of outlet box and through the brace above. Secure pipe with a ᄐ pipe cap nut.
After following method A or B:
1. Thread nut onto the nipple and fasten nipple with a lockwasher into the hickey so the nipple is flush with the inside of the hickey wire way. Tighten hex nut against the hickey. Fasten the loop and chain assembly to nipple. Loop should be approximately 7/8 below ceiling line.
2. Determine the length of chain you need and remove or add chain links at this time. Feed canopy followed by loop ring nut up the chain and connect chain to fixture loop with open link (provided) and close the link. Cover link with cloth to protect finish.
3. Lace fixture wire, ground wire and safety cable through chain links and through loop. Pull all wires out of the hickey wire way with needle nose pliers. Trim off excess wires and cable. Leave approximately 6 out from hickey. Strip 5 of plastic cover from the end of the safety cable. Loop cable back around hickey and through wire way. Pass end of cable through cable clamp. Loop cable back through cable clamp and secure clamp on cable tightly.
4. Splice the ribbed side of the parallel wire to the white supply wire from the outlet box with wire connector (not supplied). Splice the smooth side of the parallel wire to the black supply wire from outlet box with wire connector. Splice ground wires with wire connector. Push all wires into the outlet box.
5. Raise canopy to cover outlet box and secure in place with ring nut. Add any glass or shades.
